Peru's President Ollanta Humala issued the following statement Thursday where he scored remarkable achievements during his first state visit to Qatar since taking office in 2011.
During the visit, the two countries reached a wide range of important consensus, reaffirming their commitment to develop the Peru-Qatar bilateral relationship and pledging to further increase their bilateral trade:

I wish to express my appreciation for the warm reception and treatment I have received from the Qataries and their authorities during the fruitful visit I made to this delightful country.

I am convinced this was a visit of the greatest importance to the Peruvian people and his government, particularly since it has allowed us to consolidate the bilateral diplomatic relations between Peru and Qatar which will mark its 25th anniversary on November 7, 2014.

I note with great satisfaction that the remarkable progress achieved by Qatar in the fields of economy, science, technology, culture and sports, goes hand-in-hand with the vision for the future, leadership and the extraordinary management skill being displayed by the Emir, His Highness Tamim bin Hamad Al- Thani.

A year ago, on February 14, 2013, I had the opportunity to receive in Lima the visit of the Emir's father, sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, which was the first-ever visit by a leader of the Arabian Gulf to Peru.

It was an excellent opportunity to set the beginning of a new stage of enhanced relations by signing the first agreements between the two nations and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of Bilateral Consultation Mechanism.

Peru, an emerging economy which seeks to be fully integrated into the global world in all areas, is keen to broader the market for its exportable offer, as in the case of Qatar.

Meanwhile, this powerful Middle East nation, through its firms and investors, can contribute to spark the inclusion process with economic growth taking place in Peru by holding projects in the country's core sectors of infrastructure, energy, agriculture, oil, gas, petrochemical and mining.

Thus, we have invited to invest in Peru during the meeting we held with the presidents and senior executives (CEOs) of the major companies in Qatar, showcasing the strengths achieved by the Andean nation and its clear and stable rules for foreign participation.

In the light of all above, I therefore believe this has been a visit of great benefit for Peru, as it has resulted in the strengthening of the two countries' diplomatic ties, the signing of agreements in the such areas as economy, trade, culture and sport, plus the opportunity we have to eventually receive investments of the most important companies in Qatar as well as increasing cooperation in the education, science and technological fields.
