South America education, science experts convene in Lima

Education Minister Jaime Saavedra Chanduvi will open today the first “Meeting of the National Commissions for Unesco of the South American region”, a gathering bringing together representatives of Ecuador, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru.

The meeting’s objective is to improve the work in education, culture, science and communication, and information, in addition to strengthen cooperation programs and mechanisms that will help improve quality of education in the South American region.

The event will also promote the exchange of work experiences among teams from each country, and will include the participation of renowned experts such as Eric Falt, Unesco’s Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Public Information, who comes from Paris, France.

The meeting, to be held at Atton Hotel in San Isidro since 9 a.m., will feature Ambassador Manuel Rodriguez Cuadros, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Peru to Unesco; Paz Portales, Specialist Programme Coordinator of the Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean and; Fernando Brugman, Culture Team Coordinator.

Also attending will be Lidia Brito, Unesco Regional Director for Science in Latin America and the Caribbean and Representative to Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay; as well as Saadia Sanchez, Director of the Unesco Office in Quito and Representative to Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.
