The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will soon open an embassy in Lima, Peru, to further strengthen bilateral relations and mutual cooperation, Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

A delegation from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Ambassador Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Hamoud is currently on a visit to the Andean country to discuss final details and plans for the upcoming opening.

They were received by the director of Africa, Middle East and the Gulf States Department at the Peruvian Foreign Ministry. The heads of protocol and economic development departments were also present at the meeting.

Other topics covered by the Peruvian and Saudi officials included bilateral relations, the political and economic situation in Peru and its investment opportunities.

On December 10, 2010, Peru and Saudi Arabia signed a protocol in New York City to open embassies in their respective capitals.

Peru inaugurated its embassy in Riyadh, the royal capital of Saudi Arabia, in March 2013, appointing Eduardo Martinetti as its first ambassador to the Arab nation.
