The first images sent by the Earth observation submetric satellite, Asrosat-300, confirm the instrument's value and evidence the top quality of the government-to-government agreement, French Ambassador to Peru Fabrice Mauries affirmed.
The diplomat underlined the successful satellite blastoff and the delivery of its first images. He also underscored the space center operation and performance of France-trained experts as part of the two countries' bilateral cooperation.
The satellite acquisition process “has been consistent and complied with Peruvian laws,” Mauries told Andina news agency.
He thus posed no objection to answering questions and finds it fair that inquiries are raised, given the major scale and complex nature of the process.
In this sense, he said, they have no concerns since the Office of the Comptroller General led a series of investigations and found no irregularities.
Space cooperation is among the main work axes in Peru-France bilateral relations, as highlighted by French President François Hollande during his official visit to the Inca nation last February.
In this respect, the foreign affairs official assured Peru has a highly useful multi-sectorial tool, not only regarding defense and the fight against drug-trafficking, but also in environment protection.
“The first images were published a few days ago and many of them are already available. It must be taken into account the satellite is still in the calibration stage. However, we will then have a tool working at its full capacity, as Peru had requested,” the French diplomat expressed.
