Peru’s Sacha Inchi was included in Turkey’s list of products suitable for human consumption, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism (Mincetur) Magali Silva confirmed.

Such an achievement occurred during the third negotiation round for the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) conducted between the two countries in Ankara in early May.

“Mincetur’s negotiating team spoke with representatives of the Agriculture Ministry of that country to apply for the entry clearance of Sacha Inchi. The Turkish government, in turn, performed the corresponding assessment and responded positively to the request,” she said.

This way, Peruvian companies will have the opportunity to enter the US$ 4 billion oil market in Turkey, with growth expectations of 7% for the next four years.

To date, Sacha Inchi is exported to more than 50 international markets including the United States and Canada. In 2014, shipments totaled around US$3 million.

Silva expressed her satisfaction for such an achievement and said Mincetur will continue to facilitate the entry of other Peruvian biodiversity products into Turkey.
