Russian Foreign Minister to pay official visit to Peru

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is due to visit Peru on April 30th to meet his Peruvian counterpart Eda Rivas and President Ollanta Humala Tasso, it was reported.
Lavrov's visit to the Andean country which coincides with the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, is part of his four-leg trip to Latin America, which also includes Cuba, Nicaragua, and Chile. Peru will be the penultimate leg of the trip.

It is expected that the two Foreign Ministers will discuss cooperation between Russia and Peru within the frameworks of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, the development of integrative processes in Latin America in a broad international context and the prospects of Russia’s political dialogue with multisided regional associations.

The aim of Lavrov’s visit to Peru is to promote a wide spectrum of cooperation between the two countries, including a political dialogue as well as cooperation in the spheres of trade, economy, science, technology and military and humanitarian cooperation.

One of the main topics of the visit will be discussion of cooperation between Russia and Peru in fighting against such global challenges of today as drug trafficking and other crimes, as well as cooperation in preventing emergency situations and liquidation of their consequences, TASS reports.
