Ricardo Gareca introduced as new coach of Peru main soccer team

The Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) officially introduced Argentinean Ricardo Gareca as the new head coach of the Peruvian team until the end of Qualifiers for FIFA World Cup Russia 2018.

The ceremony was held at the Videna (National Sports Village) headquarters. Edwin Oviedo, president of the FPF, attended the meeting, as well as Sports Manager, Juan Carlos Oblitas, and the Team’s Manager, Antonio García Pye.

Gareca arrived in Lima very early this morning.

In his first declarations, he appreciated the reception of fans.

The first challenge for Gareca will be the match against Venezuela to be held in Miami, on 31 March.

According to García Pye, the next friendly match (against Mexico) will take place on 3 June, in Lima.

Gareca has trained Peruvian soccer club Universitario in 2007 and 2008 becoming the Champion of the Peruvian Apertura (Opening) Tournament 2008. 

He already knows Peruvian soccer player. This was good enough for him to be one of the first choices.

Among the soccer clubs trained by the Argentinean coach, are also: Velez Sarsfield and Independiente Club. Both from his native Argentina.

When in Colombia, he trained America de Cali and Santa Fe, whereas in Brazil, he trained Cruzeiro F.C.

“This will be the most important challenge of my life,” Gareca said.
