Peru's export and tourism promotion board Promperu will attend ITB Asia 2012 in Singapore to tap on to the fast-growing tourism market in Asia.

Promperu will also host Tucano Peru, Lima-based pioneer of inbound travel renowned for their high standards of service quality, as co-exhibitor at the annual travel trade show.

As of the end of 2011, tourist arrivals from Asia to Peru registered year-on-year growth of 16%, surpassing the global average.

Countries including Japan, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam have reported more than a 20% increase. In 2012 so far, first half results have registered 16% Asian visitors to the country.

“Peru is a destination which offers inexhaustible number of breath-taking nature, world class cuisine, archaeological remains from highly developed ancient civilizations, and a living culture, whose people welcome tourists with open arms.” said Ms Rocio Florian Ventura, Account Manager - Asian Markets, of Promperu.

“By attending ITB Asia this year, we plan to take this opportunity to share with the world, especially Asia, a cross-section of Peru’s tourism attractions, which goes far beyond the famed Machu Picchu. We are here to promote our culture, share our stories, and to invite guests to discover and explore our cuisine for a truly holistic Peruvian experience,” she adds.

According to website etbmice.com, the focus for Promperu and its co-exhibitor Tucano Peru, this year includes promoting high-end luxury travel, Peruvian gastronomy as well as its more traditional historical, cultural, and nature attractions.

Peru’s tourism infrastructure is conducive to welcoming a global audience of discerning travellers, with its offering of high-end boutique and experiential stays in addition to the prevalent global luxury hotel chains.

For example, the recently opened Palacio Nazarenas is an all-suite urban retreat housed in a former 16th century convent in Cuzco, capital to the ancient Inca Empire.

It boasts state-of-the-art oxygenated rooms, Cuzco’s first outdoor infinity pool, and a gourmet restaurant overseen by one of Peru’s most exciting chefs, Virgilio Martinez – all at an altitude of 3,399m (11,152ft) above sea level.

Similarly, the country’s capital Lima is steadfastly establishing itself as the gourmet capital of South America with its leading chefs placing Peruvian cuisine squarely on the global culinary map, such as Chef Gastón Acurio, who is often accredited as ambassador for the nation’s gastronomy, and in particular, his style of cooking ‘nueva andina’ termed as new Andean cuisine.

A country steeped in history with a rich and varied culture, Peru heralds its heritage and strong traditions which pre-date Hispanic, Colonial Spanish and Republican Peruvian times.  It boasts no less than eleven of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites which includes the city of Cuzco, the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu, Chavin archaeological site and Lines and Geoglyphs of Nazca amongst others.

“We look forward to meeting travel agencies, airlines, hotels and other partners in order to reinforce Peru as a must-try 5-star destination.” remarked Ms Florian.
