Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Chilean counterpart Michelle Bachelet currently hold a preliminary private audience on the occasion of the Binational Cabinet taking place in Lima today, the Government Palace's Press Office informed.
The dialogue is held at Torre Tagle Palace-Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters and follows on a
previous meeting held last night, prior to a gathering with businesspeople from both South American nations.
The Heads of State are joined by Prime Minister Fernando Zavala and Foreign Affairs Minister
Ricardo Luna (Peru), as well as Undersecretary of the Interior Mahmud Aleuy Peña and Foreign Affairs Minister Heraldo Muñoz (Chile).
Authorities will then proceed to the Government Palace for the opening of the
Peru-Chile Binational Cabinet, the very first in the Pacific countries' history. The ceremony is slated for 10:30 AM.
The meeting's major fields include: (i) social affairs and cultural issues; (ii) security and defense; (iii) foreign trade, investments, tourism, science and technology; (iv) environment, energy and mining issues; and (v) border integration.
The activity will conclude with the adoption of the Declaration of Lima and a number of bilateral agreements. Signing of the said documents is to take place at 3:00 PM at the Government Palace's Golden Hall.
Afterwards, President Bachelet will head to Air Group No. 8 to board an aircraft and return to Chile at 4:30 PM.
Peru's Foreign Minister Ricardo Luna, Protocol and Ceremony Director-General Juan Carlos Gamarra and Chile's Ambassador to Peru Roberto Ibarra will be in charge of the farewell ceremony marking the end of Ms. Bachelet's visit.
