Peru is a leader in social policy management across Latin America, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala affirmed during his annual Message to the Nation on July 28th, the day which marks the 194th Anniversary of the Republic Independence.

From Congress, the Head of State said it is the first time the country is run by an administration that implemented social programs, which obtained International Quality Certifications, such as Pension 65 (pensions for low-income seniors) and Beca 18 (scholarship program for talented youngsters from underprivileged backgrounds).

"Currently, Peru is a leader in social policy management across Latin America [...],” he told after reminding the progress made in the implementation of social programs Cuna Mas, Juntos, Qali Warma and Pension 65.

Pension 65 provides a financial support of S/. 250 (about US$ 78.6) to elderly people across the country every two months in a bid to reduce their vulnerability and improve their quality of life. It currently serves 470,000 beneficiaries and is due to assist 500,000 by the fourth year of the government.

Cuna Mas aims at improving the development of children under 3 years of age in areas of poverty and extreme poverty, to overcome the gaps in their cognitive, social, physical and emotional development.

‘Juntos’ is a government conditional transfer program for those living in poverty, which provides families with S/.200 (about US$63) every two months.

Qali Warma provides breakfast and lunch to Peruvian students from underprivileged areas, who attend public schools, especially those residing in native communities.
