U.S. President Barack Obama affirmed Peru has become the world’s "envy" due to its outstanding economic growth in the last decade, which has allowed to take millions of Peruvians out of poverty.

Likewise, the American Head of State highlighted Peru is a “loyal ally” of the US in several affairs and due to the common efforts, undertaken by both countries, in the promotion of democratic governance and the fight against terrorism.

The U.S. President made those comments during a meeting held with Peru’s new Ambassador to the US, Luis Miguel Castilla, who has recently handed over his credentials to the US Government.
The meeting took place in the Oval Office of the White House.

The U.S. Head of State pointed out both countries are increasingly more united due to: Shared educational experiences, tourism and family ties.

According to Mr. Obama, one of the main focuses of President Ollanta Humala’s administration consists in the educational exchange.

On the other hand, Mr. Castilla told the U.S. President Mr. Humala desires to “strengthen” and “deepen” bilateral relations between both nations.

He highlighted the Peruvian government is engaged in preserving: Democratic values, the Human Rights, Justice, Peace and Security.

The reforms, pushed by President Humala -in order to reach social inclusion and to continue with the State Policies in key areas such: the macroeconomic stability, the openness and the promotion of private investment- were emphasized by the Ambassador.

Mr. Castilla also claimed the US, once again, has become Peru’s main business partner.

"In six years, our Free Trade Agreements has dynamized trade and the bilateral relations," he said.

Nonetheless, those benefits can "extend" even more, and reach out to small and medium-sized enterprises, he noted.

The Ambassador said his post will boost a more active presence of American enterprises in the tendering procedures organized by Peru.
