Peru must be open to dialogue, as well as refrain from confrontation and insults, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said after a ceremony on the occasion of Universal Children's Day at Fe y Alegria 2 educational center in Lima.

In his speech, the statesman asked everyone to observe a minute of silence for the three-year-old girl who died in a shooting between criminals in Santa Anita district.

He also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to eradicating all forms of violence and implementing policies to ensure quality education for 10 million children across the country.

"It's not only about saying no to violence but to verbal violence and insults. Peru must be open to dialogue and refrain from confrontation and insults […] we need to live in harmony if we want to move forward," he was quoted as saying.

Mr. Kuczynski underlined violence cannot be tolerated if we want to turn Peru into a land full of hope and future, with jobs and education for everybody.

"This is essential and, today, on the occasion of Universal Children's Day, the core message is saying no to violence," he added.

The Head of State referred to the terrible living conditions of children in countries like Syria and Yemen, where armed conflicts take place.

That is why he insisted on working hard to end violence affecting millions of people around the world.
