Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday affirmed the Inca nation has good prospects to become part of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which is a key goal for the country.

The Head of State has been invited to OECD's 2017 International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean, where he will give the opening session's keynote speech.

The event will take place in Paris (France) next Friday, June 9.

OECD accession

Known for its high environmental, labor and transparency standards, the OECD bloc gathers advanced economies, as well as semi-industrialized ones like Mexico and Turkey.

"Joining the OECD would be important for us. It is a 3-to-4-year process, and we must improve all environmental and labor standards […]," he pointed out.

The top official noted becoming a member of the "developed countries club" takes time, and there are also members' views on new accessions to consider.

In this respect, Mr. Kuczynski underlined the United States' positive standpoint of Peru's interest, which he personally discussed with President Donald Trump during their meeting at the White House last January.

"I think we have a good chance [to join OECD]," he concluded.
