Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski participated on Tuesday morning in the homage paid by Government Palace to Lord of Miracles.
During the second procession around Lima downtown's streets, the Head of State and officials offered wreaths and candles to the Purple Christ.
The President was joined by wife Nancy Lange and Ministers: Ricardo Luna (Foreign Affairs), Cayetana Aljovin (Social Development and Inclusion), Alfonso Grados (Labor and Employment) and Fernando Zavala (Prime Minister).
The activity took place at 11:00 (local time) at front of the Government Palace.
As is known, Mr. Kuczynski already attended mass in honor of Peru's patron on October 2. It was the first time in 32 years that a Peruvian Commander-in-Chief participated in a liturgy dedicated to the Christ.
History
Lord of Miracles' processions bring the Purple Christ to the streets of downtown Lima.
Dressed in purple robes, thousands of worshipers gather to pay homage to Peru's most revered religious icon. The saint is widely known in the Andean nation.
The icon is venerated by people bound together by the common hope that the Lord will protect and give them strength in their daily lives.
Also known as the Christ of Pachacamilla, the Lord of Miracles constitutes Peru's most heavily attended religious festivity and is celebrated by all strata of society in homage to the image of the Crucified Jesus.
This image is a replica of a centuries old mural of the crucifixion painted by a slave in the 17th century.
It can be traced to the colonial era in which an Angolan slave drew the image of a black Jesus Christ on the walls of a hut in the plantation of Pachacamilla, near Lima.
