President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski believes the signing of three contracts to explore and exploit crude oil in northern Peru is an important indicator of confidence in the country's hydrocarbon potential.
"We've seen slow progress on the oil policy over the past 30-40 years, and contracts difficult to achieve. We are trying to improve that," said the leader during a ceremony at Lima's Government Palace this afternoon.

the contracts cover exploration and exploitation activities in Blocks Z-61, Z-62 and Z-63.
The blocks are located on the continental shelf along the coast of Northern Lambayeque and La Libertad regions, north of Lima.
According to Kuczynski, this will be the first time deep-sea hydrocarbon exploration will be conducted in the Inca nation at 1000-meter depth along the eastern Pacific Coast.
"Anadarko
decided to invest here, attracted by the country's hydrocarbons potential and favorable economic conditions, which consolidates Peru's image as an attractive destination for foreign investment," State-run Perupetro said in previous statements.
Perupetro is the State company responsible for promoting, negotiating, underwriting and monitoring contracts for exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in the South American nation.
Anadarko is among the world's largest independent oil and natural gas exploration and production companies, with 1.72 BBOE of proved reserves at year-end 2016.
