Peru’s President Ollanta Humala is set to meet with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, and his counterpart from France, François Hollande, within the framework of the UN General Assembly’s 69th Session.

The above-mentioned meetings are expected to continue preparations for the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP20) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), slated to take place in the Peruvian capital Lima from 1st through 12th December.

Climate change is an urgent matter which poses a challenge for development and the December conference will address this issue by  continuing negotiations around a global climate agreement, according to a statement released by the government palace’s press office secretariat.

Peru has ratified and already filed an acceptance to the Doha amendment of the Kyoto Protocol, which was adopted at the 8th Conference of the Parties (COP), held in Doha, Qatar, in 2012.

The Kyoto protocol commits to curb greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent from a 2005 base before 2020.
