Peru’s President, Ollanta Humala, ratified his support to the province mayors around the country, and requested those to improve the quality of their investments, bet on a more transparent political management and fight corruption.

The request was made in Lima while addressing several province mayors. The meeting is part of activities designed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Finance aimed at strengthening of capabilities of the new regional and local authorities.

Last year, five governorships were inspected due to malpractice, the President reminded.

Now the State can take action against governorships involved in “wrongdoings,” the President pointed out.

“We have to work together in the fight against malpractices because what attacks people’s confidence, the most, is corruption. Therefore, we need quality in the investments and transparency while running taxes,” the Head of State expressed.

In this sense, the President urged new authorities to work concertedly, in order to generate development in favor of their corresponding populations.

“This administration’s challenge is to work together aiming at reaching the country’s unity, strengthening democracy and seeking social peace,” Mr. Humala said.

The President was joined by Prime Minister, Ana Jara, Finance Minister, Alonso Segura and Defense Minister, Pedro Cateriano.

The event took place at Peruvian Military General Headquarters in Lima.
