The government has spared no effort to decisively combat corruption and has developed an unprecedented strategy to deal with this scourge under the 2012-2016 National Plan, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala said Tuesday.

Among the measures proposed is the creation of the National Commission of Seized Goods (Conabi) and the new law of loss of control that has given [the State] S/. 20 million (about US$ 6.8 million) to enhance efforts at combating money laundering.

The Peruvian leader also noted that the government lends its political support to the bodies responsible for investigating and punishing corruption. He underlined this has allowed access to previously unreachable areas.

The 3-day meeting, currently held in Cusco, features comptrollers of the Americas convened to coordinate actions against corruption.
