Peru’s President Ollanta Humala delivered the opening speech at a major investment forum aimed at putting the spotlight on the business opportunities of the nation’s south-central Moquegua region, it was reported Tuesday.

The event, aimed at attracting foreign investors to the region, will showcase the main state-run initiatives which have been successful in providing services and targeted measures to improve the quality of life of the citizens living in the said area.

It is worth mentioning Moquegua has emerged in the first place in the national ranking of elementary and high school education while it has achieved economic growth of about 10 percent so far this year, making it one of the best-performing regions.

Speaking to the audience gathered at San Isidro’s Country Club in the nation’s capital Lima, the head of the Peruvian State highlighted the national diversification plan and the entrepreneurial segment’s pledge to drive development and foster industrialization in the region.

Moquegua’s regional government seeks to reach the gross per capita production above US$ 27,000 towards 2021, thus leading the index of human development and equity in Peru, according to the government palace’s press office secretariat.
