Peruvian President Ollanta Humala held a meeting with the Chairman of Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, Zhang Dejiang, during his official visit to the Andean nation last night.

During the high-level gathering at the government palace in Lima, both the Peruvian President and the Chinese NPC official discussed the progress made on Peru-China comprehensive strategic partnership, which has effectively pushed the economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

Likewise, they reviewed health and education issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to create a trilateral working group for Peru-Brazil railway project.

The meeting saw the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gonzalo Gutierrez; the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva; the Minister of Energy and Mines, Eleodoro Mayorga; and the Minister of Transport and Communications, Jose Gallargo.

In addition to Zhang Dejiang, the Chinese side was represented its Chinese Ambassador to Peru, Huang Minhui; the Vice Foreign Minister, Li Baodong; and representatives form the National People's Congress.

Previously, on November 12 this year, Zhang Dejiang met with President Humala at the Great Hall of the People, where the Chinese government official said that in recent years, the China-Peru relations have achieved rapid development.

At that time, Humala said the Peru-China comprehensive strategic partnership is of great significance to Peru and that his country was willing to continuously consolidate and develop cooperation with China. He went on to add that the Peruvian Congress was ready to play a positive role in this regard.

Last year President Xi Jinping and his Peruvian counterpart jointly announced to upgrade the bilateral relations to the comprehensive strategic partnership and the bilateral relations have since then entered a new stage of historical development.
