Gastronomy is shown as a dynamic productive sector that strengthens tourism and is a cultural element that holds the country together, said Peruvian President Ollanta Humala as he led the food festival called Feria Sabor, Color e Inclusion (Favor, Color and Inclusion) held at the Lima-based Government Palace.

He said gastronomy is a cultural element that unites us as a country, and whose mega-diversity and natural resources are the basis for Peruvian gastronomic wealth, which translates into quality and flavor of traditional dishes.

“Dishes compete for the best quality and flavor here, and being able to offer this in Peru and abroad is what makes the country and Lima the gastronomic capital of the Americas, a place where gastronomic tourism is quite popular,” he commented.

The Peruvian leader recalled that culinary culture and popular knowledge cut across social classes, given that all families of all socio-economic levels throughout the coast and other regions like to eat lots of delicious food.

Humala Tasso loves the fact that soup kitchens are able to take part in this type of activities (the food festiva) showing the country’s progress made in implementing the social inclusion policy.

Held this year to promote gastronomy as an element of Peruvian identity and integration, "Flavor, Color and Inclusion" is a prelude to Mistura, the largest food festival in Peru and South America.
