The European Union –EU support given to Peruvian social inclusion strategy Include to Grow was the main topic at the meeting between Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and EU Commissioner in charge of International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica.
The meeting took place at the Lima-based Government Palace in the presence of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Ana Maria Sanchez; Development and Social Inclusion, Paola Bustamante; and Economy and Finance, Alonso Segura.
As reported during the meeting, Include to Grow receives a €40 million EU grant.
The financial aid program will focus on Amazon regions starting first quarter of next year. Its implementation will last for 54 months.
The strategy includes an assistance package for children under 5 years, as well as the implementation of drinking water sanitation standards for homes lacking the service.
It also ensures access to preschool education for 3 year-old children, and guarantees teenagers’ continuity in secondary education.
Moreover, investment will be made to improve public finance management systems and reform decentralized sectoral policies.
