Peruvian President Ollanta Humala arrived in Mexico City early this morning to further deepen bilateral ties and enhance existing strategic partnership between the two Latin American nations.
The Peruvian leader was greeted by a delegation led by Mexican Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Meade upon his arrival at Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City at 08:30 local time.
Afterwards, the presidential meeting will take place at 11:30 local time at the National Palace after President Humala lays a wreath at the Altar to the Fatherland, a memorial to Mexican cadets killed during the Battle of Chapultepec.
The two presidents will chair a extended meeting along with their accompanying delegations, followed by the signing of agreements and statements to the media.
"It is an important and comprehensive agreement that marks a difference in the relationship with Mexico, which will now involve a series of mechanisms and political and diplomatic agreements," said Peruvian ambassador to Mexico Javier León Olavarria.
The head of State, accompanied by Foreign Minister Gonzalo Gutierrez, is scheduled to pay a two-day official visit to Mexico, which marks the end of a journey across three countries including Germany and Brazil.
The leader flew to Mexico after completing an official visit to Brasilia, where he held bilateral talks with his counterparts from China, Brazil and India within the framework of the sixth BRICS Summit.
