Pope Francis amazed by Peruvians' faith

15:41 | Aboard the Papal Plane, Jan. 22.

Pope Francis noted the feelings of a "believing nation that goes through many hardships" and its "people's warmth" were the factors that stood out the most during his four-day visit to Peru.

Within this context, the Supreme Pontiff explained he had seen Peruvians' impressive faith, not only in Trujillo —where popular piety is predominant and very strong— but also in the Inca nation's capital.

Likewise, Pope Francis pointed out he was amazed especially by his visit to Puerto Maldonado. In this sense, His Holiness affirmed he had not expected to see so many people in the rainforest city's streets waiting for him.

"It was a town that came out to express its joy and faith," the Head of the Catholic Church noted.

The Vicar of Christ also stressed children's presence during his diverse activities in the country.

"[…] that means future, means hope, because nobody brings a child to the world, if there is no hope," the Pope pointed out.

"The people's warmth was unbelievable [at the mass in Lima]. I say this country has faith," Francis concluded.

Remarks were made at a press conference held on board his return flight from Peru to Italy, which landed in Rome on Monday.
