His Holiness Pope Francis is looking forward to his coming visit to the Inca country in January 2018, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said Friday after his meeting with the Supreme Pontiff.

In statements to RPP local news station, President Kuczynski assured the Pope is "most excited about his visit to Peru."

"He has only been to Peru twice and he is truly happy [to come again]," the Head of State affirmed.

The statesman noted His Holiness has expressed concerns and deep interest in human trafficking, wildcat mining and deforestation issues in southeastern Madre de Dios region, which will be part of his itinerary while in Peru (January 18-21).

In this sense, Mr. Kuczynski said he gave the Pope an account of all government actions to address the said issues.

The President described his audience with the Bishop of Rome as a "wonderful conversation" which covered topics like societal progress, poverty reduction and the global situation.

President Kuczynski arrived at the Holy See to formally extend a papal visit invitation to the Supreme Pontiff during a private audience held at the Vatican Apostolic Palace earlier today.
