Pope Francis has arrived in Rome, following his week-long visit to Chile and Peru, Vatican News confirmed today.

The aircraft —which took off from Lima on Sunday evening— landed at Rome's Ciampino Airport on Monday around 2:15 PM (local time).

Immediately upon his arrival, the Holy Father made his way to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major to pray before the image of Our Lady, Salus Populi Romani, in thanksgiving for a successful journey.

The news was confirmed in a tweet from the director of the Holy See Press Office, Greg Burke.
