Mining projects developed during President Humala administration —such as Las Bambas, Toromocho, Constancia and Cerro Verde expansion— set a record in Peru's mining history, Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano affirmed on Tuesday.

It must be noted aforementioned projects entailed investments worth over US$21 billion, which will significantly invigorate the country’s economy.

Likewise, Cateriano noted works were implemented while complying with regulations and respecting the environment. Projects lead to generating jobs, as well as wealth for the benefit of locals.

The official also reminded that Apurimac region's Las Bambas "is the largest mining megaproject executed in the History of the Republic, since it entails an investment worth over US$10.00 billion."

Similarly, Junin region-based Toromocho project contributed to generating 18,391 direct and 165,519 indirect jobs. Over 735,000 inhabitants are to benefit from it.

Cusco's Constancia copper mine led to over 40,000 jobs and thus benefit over 168,080 residents.

Finally, Cateriano stressed that Arequipa region's Cerro Verde ranks among the world's five largest mining projects, with a US$5.653 billion investment.
