The Peruvian government has announced the launch of a public information campaign about the new law aimed at young workers in a bit to convince them this regime seeks protection of their rights.

According to Peruvian Labor Minister, Fredy Otarola, this initiative aims to end the misinformation campaign initiated by certain political forces.

The starting point will be in Trujillo, where government representatives will attempt to formalize workers employed in over 4,000 small and micro enterprises from the footwear industry.

“We have picked Trujillo City [located in northern Peru] to implement this pilot project in the short-term,” Otarola told La Hora N, a TV program aired on Canal N, a cable news channel in Peru.

He also denied rumors that the proposed law is meant to abolish labor rights but, on the contrary, it seeks to help exploited young workers with no benefits in the informal sector.

This measure, passed by the Congress, will enable to create new job positions for the youth in order to keep unemployment rate low.

The legislation demands enterprises to add young workers (aged: 18 - 24) to their payroll list and provide them a 15-day- vacation period per year.

Other benefits, such as compensation for length of service do not apply to such cases.

In previous statements, Peruvian president Ollanta Humala assured it will not lead to exploitation of the working population.
