Peruvians surfers Sebastian Correa, Lucca Messinas, Joaquin Del Castillo, Juninho Urcia and Miguel Tudela had on Saturday an outstanding performance at the Chicama Pro Junior Classic competition and managed to advance to the semi-finals.

Rankings leader Deivid Silva from Brazil suffered a surprise early elimination, giving Italo Ferreira (BRA) and Juninho Urcia, a chance to overtake him for the title.

The Peruvians dominated the day’s competition. In the Semifinals, Urcia will face Luan Wood (BRA) in a rematch of the 2013 ASP South America Pro Junior Final in which Wood came out victorious.

"I’m stoked and a little more relaxed now that I’ve made it to the Semifinals, especially since Miguel (Tudela) qualified as well," said Urcia.

He continued, "I started off my heat with a winning mentality and my first two waves were really good. My opponents keep getting harder, and this contest isn’t easy at all, but I feel confident that I can get a good result tomorrow. The waves are a little small but with less wind, so I think conditions will be good to compete in. My goal is to qualify for the ASP World Pro Junior event in Portugal, but I’ll be aiming for the South American title as well."

The Chicama Pro Junior Classic tournament  will  determine the junior surfers who will represent South America at the ASP World Pro Junior event in Ericeira, Portugal.

ASP South America will send the four best surfers from the men’s division and the top two surfers from the women’s division according to the rankings upon conclusion of the Chicama Classic Pro Junior.
