A total of 150,000 Peruvians visited North-American country Mexico in 2014.

Thus, it represented an increase of 13%. This growth was the determining outcome of the visa exemption mechanism implemented for Pacific Alliance member-countries, the Mexico Tourism Board announced today.

According to the board representative to the Pacific Alliance Omar Macedo Garcia, since the year 2012 -when the bloc creation agreement was inked- Peruvian, Chilean and Colombian citizens do not need to hold a visa to enter Mexico.

"We work to spread information about the fact that a visa is not a necessity anymore; only a passport valid for the next six months is required […],” he told El Peruano official newspaper's supplement "Lo Nuestro".

In this context, he described as "good news" the new direct Lima-Cancun flight; a service provided by Avianca Airlines. It will carry 120 passengers to Mexico three times a week starting on July 26.

The Pacific Alliance is an innovative economic, trade integration mechanism based on a system of open regionalism.

It has an active and comprehensive agenda that, besides addressing trade-related topics, promotes joint and coordinated activities among export promotion agencies of the member states.

It encourages cooperation projects, educational scholarship programs, student mobility and immigration flexibility actions.

Created on 28 April 2011, it was made official in Antofagasta, Chile on 6 June 2012 with the signing of the Framework Agreement of the Pacific Alliance. Such agreement will come into force starting July 20 this year.
