Aiming to boost Lake Titicaca voting in the New 7 Wonders of Nature contest, Peruvian swimmer Rubén Medina Cruz, known as “Triton of the Titicaca”, will perform the 5km crossing with shackles on his feet.

The initiative, dubbed "From the Titicaca to the Pacific" will take place next Wednesday and consists in linking the San Lorenzo isle and La Punta, in the Callao Province.

It is promoted by the official supporting committee for Lake Titicaca and the Sport Association Puerto Bravo de Mollendo.

Medina will arrive in Lima on Sunday from La Paz (Bolivia), where he trains hard in the sacred lake of the Incas waters under the technical assistance of Binational Authority of Lake Titicaca (ALT) and other promoting institutions of the Binational campaign.

"This activity aims to promote the Binational campaign of the Lake Titicaca and to make the people in Lima vote," said Julián Barra Catacora, one of the voting promoters.

Currently, Lake Titicaca tops Group F (lakes, rivers and waterfalls) of the seven wonders of nature campaign, according to the New 7 Wonders Foundation.

The Amazon River and Rainforest ranks second in Group E, (forests, national parks and nature reserves), which is now led by Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park in the Philippines.

The Colca Canyon located in Arequipa stands also second in Group D, which includes caves, rock formations and valleys.
