Five Peruvian food companies closed business deals worth US$5.7 million for the next 12 months during Natural & Organic Products Europe fair in London, the Andean country's Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry reported on Friday.

Natural & Organic Products Europe is the continent's leading platform for natural, healthy and organic products. This year's edition gathered over 10,000 visiting businesses seeking new products.

The major sales projection was achieved through 361 business meetings between the said Peruvian enterprises and their international counterparts.

650 exhibitors

The event featured a total of 650 exhibitor companies from 46 countries that showcased an exciting, varied array of natural, ecological, vegan and fair-trade products.

Peruvian participants were Agroindustrias Osho, Algarrobos Organicos del Peru, Andes Mills Trading, Amazon Health Products and Ecoandino.

Together, the five enterprises presented products like quinoa (seeds, flour, pops and pre-cooked), chia (seeds and seed oil), cacao nibs, lucuma powder, camu camu powder, panela (unrefined whole cane sugar), maca, dehydrated aguaymanto (golden berry), among others.

Their participation was possible thanks to Peru's Trade Office in London (Ocex London), as well as Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru).

UK market

Organic products have seen sustained growth in the United Kingdom over the last five years, reaching as much as US$2.8 billion in 2016.

To date, they account for close to 1.5% of the UK's food and drinks market, currently valued at US$250 billion.

Organic product sales in the UK contribute approximately 3.5% to total sales worldwide.

On a global scale, the organic market amounts to US$81 billion.

Superfoods Peru

As is known, Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros in February presented the new brand "Superfoods Peru" to the international community.

The initiative seeks to promote the quality, variety and benefits of the Andean nation's nutrient-rich food offer.
