Peruvian Mariana Costa Checa, CEO and co-founder of Laboratoria —a tech social enterprise that empowers young women— met with U.S. President Barack Obama and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES).

Costa told Mr. Obama about Laboratoria, a social enterprise she leads in Peru.

“I started it [...] two years ago; we are now in Peru, Chile and Mexico,” she reminded.

“What we try to do is to go out and find talent where nobody else is looking for it, so we try to identify young women who haven’t been able to access quality education of job opportunities because of economic limitations, train them to become the most awesome web developers they can be, and connect them with employment opportunities in the tech sector,” she explained.

Laboratoria is a social enterprise that trains women to become web designers and links them with companies that need their talent.

Before becoming a social entrepreneur, Mariana worked for organizations such as TechnoServe and the Organization of American States on social development projects in El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Peru and Kenya.

She is a firm believer in the idea that social entrepreneurship is the way to bring together the best of two worlds.

Hosted at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California on June 22-24, GES 2016 gathered over 1,000 attendees, including entrepreneurs, investors, educators, foreign government officials, and business representatives who represent the full measure of entrepreneurial talent from diverse backgrounds across our nation and the world.
