Peruvian president to attend CELAC, Pacific Alliance meetings

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala will attend the 2nd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Havana, Cuba.

Humala was authorized on Friday by the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Republic to be absent from the country on January 28-29.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Eda Rivas will accompany the president during his two-day trip to the Cuban capital.

The Peruvian Congress also authorized the president to leave the country from February 9-12 to attend the 8th Summit of the Pacific Alliance, a trading bloc which also includes Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.

The meeting will be held in Cartagena, Colombia, where Humala will also pay an official visit at the invitation of President Juan Manuel Santos.

The two presidents will hold talks in Bogota on February 11.
