Peruvian president meets political leaders on upcoming ICJ ruling

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala met Friday with the main political leaders in the South American country to discuss the Executive’s work agenda following a ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the maritime border dispute between Peru and Chile.

The meeting began at 10:30 local time at the Government Palace in Lima.

Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva, Foreign Minister Eda Rivas and Justice Minister Daniel Figallo were present at the meeting.

Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (Perú Más), César Acuña (Alianza para el Progreso), Luis Castañeda Lossio (Solidaridad Nacional), Luis Thais (Perú Posible) and Jorge del Castillo (Apra) attended the meeting representing their political parties.

Also in attendance were Salomón Lerner Ghitis (Frente Amplio de Izquierda), Fernando Andrade (Somos Perú), Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular), Yehude Simon (Partido Humanista Peruano), Luis Bedoya Reyes (Partido Popular Cristiano) and Tomás Zamudio (Gana Perú).

The ICJ, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, will deliver its ruling on the long-standing maritime border dispute between Peru and Chile on Monday, January 27.
