President Ollanta Humala arrives in Israel

Peru's President Ollanta Humala arrived Saturday night in Tel Avil, Israel, as part of a nine-day diplomatic tour in three Middle Eastern countries aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting trade and investment links.
The Peruvian head of state is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Israeli's president Shimon Peres, the Speaker of the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament), Yuli-Yoel Edelstein and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In addition, he will also hold talks with local business leaders and will also be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Hebrew University

Finally, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Israel, Avigdor Lieberman, will host a dinner in honor of Peruvian President.

Humala’s Middle East tour also includes visits to Palestine and Qatar. His trip is scheduled to last until February 22.

Last week, Israel was granted observer status in the Pacific Alliance, a Latin American trade bloc that includes Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Costa Rica
