Two young Peruvian engineers, winners of the Global Impact Competition PERU 2015, will be trained by Singularity University at NASA Research Park in Silicon Valley, United States.

This will be possible by a comprehensive scholarship awarded by the National Council for Science, Technology and Technological Innovation (Concytec) through the National Fund for Scientific Development, Technology and Innovation of the Government of Peru (Fondecyt). This is the first time Singularity University admits Peruvian innovators through its Global Impact Competition.

They will share their knowledge with professionals from around the world, supported by corporations and multinationals such as Google, Cisco, Genentech, Autodesk, 3DSystems, among others. The 10-week Graduate Studies Program wil equip participants with tools, knowledge, skills and attitudes to make their ideas a reality.

Concytec’s President Gisella Orjeda sees this opportunity as a historic milestone, as it will help develop better capacities in Peru in order to face and resolve great challenges.

“Transforming the country requires innovation. We must innovate to manage productive diversification in Peru; to this end, it is necessary to train human resources and boost national industry,” she said.

After having been assessed by a prestigious international jury, the Singularity University pronounced Monica Abarca –electronic engineer from Universidad Catolica del Peru, with experience in artificial intelligence–, as the winner. She participated in a simulated Mars survival mission in Utah desert, United States.

The other winner was Adolfo Valdivieso physicist from Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria with experience in artificial intelligence. He founded Tullpi, a technological platform aimed at teaching mathematics through tangible interfaces.

Global Impact Competition Peru is a challenge to find the most innovative Peruvian entrepreneurs, who have the skills, passion and ideas or projects that could potentially impact in a positive manner the lives of at least one million Peruvian children through the use of exponential technologies.
