During her visit to China, the Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade, Magali Silva, said that the entry of Hass avocados to the Chinese market could take place within one or two months.
The only transaction left is a health authorisation from the Chinese authorities. At this time, a team from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ), together with the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA), is inspecting the plantations to verify that Peruvian Hass avocados are free of fruit flies.

"They are touring Peru's plantations and they [AQSIQ] believe they will issue a report in the coming weeks with their final decision," he said.

This announcement came after a meeting between the representative of MINCETUR and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Chinese Government, Yu Hen Kangz.

At this meeting, the possibility of opening an agricultural research office in Peru, which would be run by the Peruvian Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Juan Benítez, was also discussed, freshplaza.com reported.
