The upcoming edition of International Gastronomic Fair Mistura is expected to delight at least 35,000 tourists coming to enjoy Peru's food and beverages.
Considered South America's greatest food event, the 10-day festival will take place at Costa Verde seashore of Lima's Magdalena del Mar district on September 2-11.
Peruvian Gastronomy Society (Apega) Executive Director Bernardo Roca Rey explained Mistura serves as "first stop for visitors," who later move on to other parts of the country to arrive in different tourist destinations.
"Last year, we welcomed 30,000 foreigners who chose Mistura as their first destination. This number goes up every year. According to our estimates, over 35,000 tourists will arrive for this edition," he told Andina news agency.
The Apega representative suggested that foreign visitors and diners should drop by the fair's Grand Market, where they can find a vast variety or products — including native produce —grown by Peruvian farmers.
"The market provides a source of inspiration, a place for visitors to learn about our rich biodiversity and products they have never seen before. Once they have been to the Grand Market, they can go on to visit the different food stalls to try what they just saw," he suggested.
Exclusive at low prices
The event will feature renowned chefs, who will represent exclusive Peruvian eateries offering their most delicious specialties to visitors.
Each dish will cost S/5.00 (about US$ 1.50).
"The special offer is called 5x5 given prices of dishes and the five-star restaurants offering them," Roca Rey affirmed.
