12 Peruvian entrepreneurs and producers participated in Paris Salon Du Chocolat exhibit leading to deals worth US$350,000 and transactions valued at over US$9 million for the upcoming 12 months, Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva reported.
The national participation was aimed at positioning Peru as fine cocoa producer, as well as boosting trade led by national agro-exporting SMEs, expanding contacts network and spreading the exportable supply.
"The Peruvian presentation drew attention from attendees. Our stand was hugely crowded. This enabled them to confirm the high quality of our cocoa and chocolates leading to deals and transactions [...]," she affirmed.
"Peruvian entrepreneurs talked to producers, exporters, importers, high level executives and industrialists belonging to the cocoa and chocolate [productive] chain, who felt very excited about our products,” she said.
Cocoa is a Peru’s agro-exports flagship product and counts on a strong social inclusion component, since it directly and indirectly benefits over 90,000 families and 450,000 people, above all farmers from rural areas.
The national supply was represented by enterprises trained by Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru).
Peruvian cocoa exports climbed from US$146 million (2013) to US$234 million in 2014. Main target market was Europe, where Germany and France stood out as top buyers.
Likewise, organic cocoa exports climbed from US$31 million to US$55 million.
