Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his Chilean counterpart Sebastian Piñera arrived in Cuba on Wednesday to attend the Second Summit of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) that concludes in Havana today.

The two leaders, who are expected to meet on the sidelines of the two-day summit, traveled to the island after learning the verdict from The Hague-based International Court of Justice on a border dispute between Peru and Chile.

Upon his arrival, Humala sent greetings to the Cuban people and showed his support for the island, arguing against the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, website Prensa Libre reported.

For his part, Piñera emphasized that to join the modern world, unity is the only option for Latin American and Caribbean nations and the CELAC summit provides a timely opportunity to move forward in that effort.

According to diplomats from Peru and Chile, despite the dispute, conditions are ripe for improved cooperation between the two countries.
