Peruvian child Ariadne Cahuana Tapia (aged 10) obtained one of the five regional prizes at a competition organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Cahuana submitted a drawing, which portrays a "Tribute to the Earth" (Pachamama), the sowing and harvest process, as well as Puno's traditional products, such as quinoa and barley.

The Puno-born child competed with at least some other 100 Peruvian students and 4,000 children residing in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The said competition was aimed at highlighting the meaning of family farming through drawings portraying families, who protect and feed the world by carrying out such activities.

Winners were selected by FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. Judges took into account the children's abilities to represent the family farming's contribution to food and nutrition safety.

Peru submitted over 100 drawing thanks to NGO Global Humanitaria Peru, which promotes healthy feeding and school orchards in the region.

During the award ceremony, Agriculture Ministry representative Socrates Olivera congratulated Ariadne and expressed his gratitude to her for putting the daily experiences of children from her community on display. It must be noted those minors join farming activities at a very young age, while living in harmony with the environment.

FAO, along with the Humanitarian Global Organization and Puno's Provincial Municipality granted a commemorative plaque, an official diploma, and a distinguished citizen medal to Ariadne and her school.
