Four acclaimed Peruvian gourmet chefs will spread the nutritional bounties of the Andean nation’s quinoa at the culinary event "Quinoa, the Golden Grain of the Incas", to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 28-30, 2014.
The gastronomic fair will be held at the culinary school CityCooks, located in the Alkent Shopping Center in the Etiler residential area, known for its shops, cafes and upscale, international restaurants.

There, the four renowned chefs include Roberto Segura, Marita Lynn, Javier Flórez, and Rosita Robles will teach nearly a hundred people about the millennial history, nutritional values, business opportunities, and multiple uses and applications of Peruvian quinoa in international and Turkish cuisine.

Attending the three-day conference will be gourmet chefs, nutritionists, gastronomy students, businessmen from the agricultural sectors.

Heidi Castrillon, founding director of Biz USA- Peru & Americas and organizer of the event, said it seeks to showcase the quality of quinoa, as Peru is the world's largest producer of this grain and has an estimated 70,000 small and medium farmers dedicated to cultivating this crop.

“It is a tribute to quinoa which is considered the Andes’ golden grain,” said Castrillon. “Peruvians abroad have an obligation to support their government in spreading the benefits of the golden Inca grain”.

The event is also sponsored by the Embassy of Peru in Turkey and the Commercial Office of Peru in Istanbul as well as by Argencrops Peru and Bora Tarim Ürünleri, Turkey-based companies dedicated to Fair Trade quinoa, cereals, legumes and Peruvian grains.

Peru’s Ambassador to Turkey, Jorge Abarca del Carpio, will be the keynote speaker of the opening session titled “Peruvian gourmet, ancestral knowledge, and productive inclusion”.

The event’s inauguration ceremony will be attended by diplomats from different countries, Turkish businessmen, and European tourism and gastronomy sector press.

"The guests at the opening session will enjoy a ‘Night of Peruvian Flavors’ with ceviche, pisco sour and an international fusion of quinoa, among other traditional dishes from the Andean nation," said Fernando Albareda, Peru's Economic and Commercial Counselor in Istanbul.

At the third and final day of "Quinoa, the Golden Grain of the Incas", a open kitchen session using Peruvian quinoa will be carried out with the attendance of more than one hundred people, all linked to the business, tourism and hospitality industries in Turkey.

This session will be held on Wednesday, April 30th at 6 pm at the Macro center- a busy gastro pub located in the Kanyon Shopping Mall- probably the most luxurious shopping mall in Europe.

The Andean grain’s high nutritional value has drawn attention and caused an impact going as far as the United Nations proclaiming 2013 as International Year of Quinoa.
