Peruvian chef Victoriano Lopez has won the first annual "Cuchillo de Oro" (Golden Knife) award presented by the Washington-based Peruvian American Chef Association, or PACHA.
Lopez, a long-time protégé of acclaimed Peruvian chef and international restaurateur Gaston Acurio, was honored for his work promoting the varied and world-renowned gastronomy of Peru.

The chef de cuisine at Acurio's Tanta restaurant in Chicago received the award from the hands of Peru's Consul General in Washington, D.C., Cesar Jordan Palomino, during a gala evening on Nov. 17.

In addition, special recognition was given to chef Consuelo Jordan, one of the creators of the "Cuchillo de Oro" award.

Attending the award ceremony  were Kurt Burneo, Alternate Executive Director for Peru and Colombia at the Inter American Development Bank (IDB), and Vitaliano Gallardo, Alternate Representative of Peru to the Organization of American States (OAS) and a group of Peruvian chefs who came all the way from New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Miami and Minnesota.
