A Peruvian national is reportedly one of the five Doctors Without Borders (MSF) staffers seized by an unknown group in northern Syria this week.

"MSF confirms that five members of its staff were taken yesterday night from an MSF house in the north of Syria by a group, apparently for questioning," MSF said in a statement on Friday.

MSF did not specify the nationality of those taken, their roles, or who took them, but said it was “in contact with all the relevant stakeholders” and trying to re-establish contact with the staff.

Meanwhile, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said late Friday that it was working to confirm media reports that the fifth MSF staff member taken was from the Andean country.

According to spokespeople from the various chapters of the group in four European countries, the other four MSF employees taken Thursday night are Belgian, Danish, Swedish and Swiss nationals.
