Peruvian Ambassador Claudio de la Puente Ribeyro presented credential letters to World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Roberto Azevedo, the Inca country's Foreign Affairs Ministry informed.

Such credentials recognized the appointment De la Puente as Permanent Representative of Peru to said international organization.

The diplomat stressed that Peru supports the WTO multilateral trade system, as well as appreciates its role in the consolidation of an open, transparent and equitable trade system.

De la Puente also pointed out he expects consensus to be reached on certain issues during the next WTO Ministerial Conference (MC11) taking place in Buenos Aires on December 10-13.

Likewise, he underscored the relevance of negotiations to reach an agreement in terms of fisheries subsidies —in line with Target 14 of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)— and the commitment to continuing working on other issues included on WTO's agenda.
