Renowned Peruvian cook Virgilio Martinez received this year's Chefs Choice Award based on the votes by other chefs from The World's 50 Best Restaurants list.

Chef Virgilio Martinez steals the limelight with two award wins this year.

His restaurant, Central (No.5), in Peru, is named The Best Restaurant in South America. It was three-time No.1 in Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants.

On the other hand, he is this year's recipient of the peer-voted Chefs' Choice Award, sponsored by Estrella Damm.

A brief review posted on The World's 50 Best Restaurants website notes the way he has helped propel Peru's status as a foodie destination to new heights with constant research and improvement at Central.

South America boasts five restaurants from across the continent on the list. Maido in Lima, last year's winner of the Highest Climber Award, continues its upward trajectory, rising five places to No.8.

This year's winners were revealed at an awards ceremony at the historic Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, Australia.
