Peru's popularity as MICE destination grows in U.S. market

Peru is strengthening its position as a destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions —collectively known as MICE— in the United States, Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) said on Monday.

This progress is the result of concerted efforts by Peru's Trade Offices in the United States and Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru).

This way, several incentive travel programs and meetings have been set for the 2017-2018 season, with an estimated economic impact of US$1.3 million.

This figure includes revenues from services and manufactures used to develop the activity.

"Peru has a great potential to become a destination for world-class meetings and events. It has a convention center whose infrastructure and services match those of others," Mincetur pointed out.

Future contracts are being negotiated for the 2018-2020 period and are expected to bring an economic impact of US$13 million.
