Peru's top runner Ines Melchor began her participation in the 2017 Bolivarian Games grabbing gold medal in the 10000-meter race during the first competition day for this discipline.

The 31-year-old athlete captured the first position in said competition with a time of 33 minutes and 57 seconds, whereas fellow citizen Luzmery Rojas grabbed the second place.

It must be noted Inca runner Javier McFarlane also won gold in the 110-meter hurdles. In this sense, he managed to beat Colombians Juan Carlos Moreno (silver) and Yeison Rivas (bronze).

Likewise, Peruvian Zulema Arenas ended third in the 1500-meter race. She clocked a time of 4.19.
Said competition was won by Colombian Murial Coneo (gold), who was followed by compatriot Rosibel Garcia (silver).

The 2017 Bolivarian Games take place in Santa Marta and will run thru November 25.
