Peru's mango exports up to US$165.2 mn in Jan-April period

Mangoes exports from Peru rose to US$ 165.2 million in the period between January and April in 2014, up 25.7 percent from the same stretch a year earlier, according to the Peruvian Association of Exporters (Adex).
According to the entity’s Agricultural Office, the northern Piura region concentrates the largest production of the fruit by accounting for 75 percent of the total yield. 

"This area was followed by the coastal northern regions of Lambayeque and Ancash with 15 percent and 10 percent, respectively," said the Adex's report released Friday.

The  found the largest destination market for Peruvian mangoes during period under study was South Korea after shipments increased by 1,192 percent. 

"The said figure largely surpasses the US$ 142,800 recorded during last year's January-April stretch," the report said.

Likewise, the private entity noted the main export mango variety from the Andean nation continues to be Kents, representing around 95 percent of foreign shipments.
